The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has announced the release of results for the 2024 November/December edition of the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) specifically for private candidates.
The announcement was delivered by Dangut Amos, the Head of WAEC Nigeria’s National Office, on Sunday, February 16th, 2025.
According to a statement from Moyosola Adesina, WAEC’s Head of Public Affairs, 65,023 candidates took part in the examination at different centers across the country.
Adesina stated that out of all the candidates who took the examination, 34,878 achieved credits or higher in at least five mandatory subjects, representing 53.64 percent of those tested.
Moreover, the 2024 result marks an improvement compared to the pass rates of previous years: 44.29% in 2023 and 42.16% in 2022, indicating a performance increase of 9.35%.
According to the statement, 16,886 male candidates (48.41%) and 17,992 female candidates (51.58%) achieved the necessary credits, showing that female candidates surpassed their male counterparts in performance.
However, 62,364 candidates (95.90%) had their results fully processed and released, while 2,669 candidates (4.1%) are still awaiting theirs due to some errors.
Moreover, the results for 2,577 candidates (3.98%) were withheld due to suspected examination malpractice cases.
The statement further mentioned that investigations will be carried out to decide whether these results will be released or canceled.
