On Monday, the West African Examinations Council, or WAEC, announced that it will administer the computer-based WASSCE to private applicants.
The Public Affairs Department of WAEC, along with Moyosola F. Adesina, the Ag. Head of Public Affairs at WAEC, Yaba, Lagos, signed a statement announcing the start of exam registration on Monday, December 18, 2023.

“The Nigeria National Office of the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) wishes to inform the general public, and all its stakeholders, that it has concluded plans to migrate its WASSCE for Private Candidates Examination Diets from Paper and Pencil Test to Computer Based Examination (CBE) in line with global best practises,” the statement said in part.
“The Innovation will start with the First Series of the WASSCE for Private Candidates, 2024, scheduled for February of that year. The Essay and Test of Practical papers will be hybrid in nature, with the examination questions presented on screen and candidates filling out answer booklets with their responses. The Objective tests will be entirely computer-based.
Furthermore, candidates with special requirements have been taken into consideration in the design, and the exam will be held in urban areas or cities. The exam will begin to be registered for on Monday, December 18, 2023.
