The distribution of food supplies to 3,000 victims of terrorism in the state has been started by the Victims Support Fund (VSF), in partnership with the Niger Government.
In his remarks at the VSF 2023 Improving Livelihood and Empowering Communities’ opening ceremony on Friday in Minna, Governor Umaru Bago stated that the collaboration aimed to benefit the weak and those who had been affected by terrorism and other vices.
Bago noted that victims of terrorism faced a variety of difficulties, including inadequate hygiene, limited access to education, and economic hardship. He was represented by his deputy, Mr. Yakubu Garba.
“The predicaments are alarming, and all hands must be on deck to reverse the ugly trend,” he warned.
He reaffirmed the state government’s dedication to making sure that the various communities experienced long-lasting peace and security.
In order to reach a larger population, the governor also requested that VSF broaden its mission to include helping flood victims and those with other public health concerns.
Earlier, Prof. Nana Tanko, Executive Director of VSF, stated that the food supplies would serve 3,000 households in the Lapai, Shiroro, and Kontagora Local Government Areas.
Rice, beans, vegetable oil, sugar, and seasoning were among the items she requested for distribution.
Tanko revealed that VSF has created a plan for the following three years that included expanding its participation to include Taraba, Kaduna, Katsina, Benue, and Niger in addition to providing aid to terrorism victims.
She claimed that the group was working to increase victims’ resiliency so they could reintegrate into their communities.
Ahmed Suleiman, the state commissioner for humanitarian affairs and disaster management, declared in his speech that the ministry would work with VSF to provide assistance to terrorism victims in the state.
Sadiya Mohammed, one of the recipients, expressed her gratitude to the VSF and the Niger government for their assistance and said that it will help to lessen their pain.
