Volunteer teacher, aged 33, who defeated former Speaker, switches political allegiance from PDP to APC
The sole member of the Yobe House of Assembly from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Lawan Majakura, defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Upon welcoming the congressman to Damaturu, Governor Mai Mala Buni characterised Majakura as a youthful, dynamic politician possessing immense promise.
“Politics is about serving the people, and I am impressed by your dedication to effectively serving your constituency.”
“I am equally amazed by the level of individuals who attended this event with you.It demonstrates your acceptance by these respectable politicians,” he remarked.
Majakura had earlier claimed that the reason he defected from the PDP to the APC was the good work the Buni administration was doing for the citizens of his constituency.
Many areas in his constituency, he claimed, had undergone transformations as a result of the building of roads, housing estates, medical facilities and other initiatives.
“I want to work with you to better the lives of my people by supporting you as you serve my district.
The congressman stated, “I am confident that if I am on the same page with you in the APC, we can achieve more; it will benefit the people of my constituency better.”

Speaker of the House Chiroma Mashio praised the member as a tremendous advocate of his people’s interests in his speech.
Majakura has proven on the Assembly floors that he is genuinely committed to standing up for his people’s rights.
According to Mashio, “the party and the government of Yobe state benefit from his defection to the APC.”
According to OBASANJONEWS24, on March 11, 2023, Majakura, a 33-year-old volunteer teacher, emerged victorious over Ahmed Mirwa, the previous Speaker of the House, to become the next representative for the constituency.
