On Tuesday, students at Gateway Polytechnic in Saapade, Ogun State, protested against armed individuals who they believed to be cultists and robbers attacking their off-campus dorms.

On Tuesday morning, the students invaded the school while holding signs with different messages on them.

At least two pupils have died in the past several days, some of the students informed OBASANJO NEWS24.

The students claimed that “the armed men frequently invade students’ dorms at night to dispossess them of their phones, money” and other items. They begged to remain anonymous for security concerns.

They even thrashed the females on Sunday after raping them. We can no longer close our eyes and go to sleep. These thieves are coming to steal our stuff and maybe even extort girls. It’s becoming excessive. “This cannot go on,” they yelled.

Images circulated on social media showed the body of a dead student on the ground next to four injured people receiving medical attention in what appeared to be a hospital.

Students are currently going back to their homes till the issue is resolved.

Our correspondent was informed by Omolola Odutola, the public relations officer for Ogun State Police, that “the Area Commander is on ground there.”

When asked to elaborate on the students’ agitations, the PPRO said she would gather more information and come back to her.

Contacting the polytechnic’s acting registrar was unsuccessful as of the time this report was filed.
