Two village leaders were detained in connection with the attack on the Igueben train station on January 7, according to the Edo State Government.
Chris Nehikhare, who is in charge of communication and orientation, gave the tip Wednesday after a meeting of the State Executive Council in Benin.
Seven more suspects have been taken into custody, and the two remaining passengers have been freed by security.
The two are Nigerian Railway Corporation employees (NRC).
Nehikhare says that it was a success that five people, including two village heads, were arrested and that they helped with the investigation.
Concerning the Lassa fever outbreak, he said that the Federal Government and its agencies had not helped Edo, even though the state had asked for help many times.

“The Lassa fever has affected more than 50 people.” In comparison to COVID-19, our death rate of 5% is relatively high.
Nehikhare reported that Edo has requested assistance from the World Health Organization (WHO) and other international organisations.
He said that letters had been sent to the National Center for Disease Control (NCDC), the Ministry of Health, and other organisations, but “sadly, they refused to come to our rescue.”
