A video has emerged featuring Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), celebrating the Supreme Court’s ruling regarding the political crisis in Rivers State.
On Friday, the court mandated that the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and the Accountant General of the Federation suspend financial allocations to Rivers State. This order will stay in place until Governor Sim Fubara stops engaging in activities deemed illegal and unconstitutional by the court.
The ruling additionally stipulated that funds would only be disbursed after the passage of a valid Appropriation Law by the state House of Assembly, which is led by Martin Amaewhule, an acknowledged ally of Wike.
Justice Emmanuel Akomaye Agim, in delivering the judgment, ordered the 27 lawmakers aligned with Wike to immediately return to their legislative responsibilities. The five-member panel headed by Justice Musa Uwani Aba-Aji unanimously decided that it was inappropriate for Governor Fubara to govern with only 4 out of 32 legislators present.
Furthermore, the Supreme Court voided the local government elections conducted on October 5, 2024, deeming the process invalid and unlawful.
Following the court’s decision, Wike posted a video of himself singing and expressing gratitude to God.
The former Rivers governor was accompanied by Senator Philip Aduda and other political allies as he joyfully sang gospel songs, including the one titled “God Has Honored Me.”
