Over 40 individuals have lost their lives and more than 100 have sustained injuries in what has been described as a “terrorist attack” at the Crocus City Hall shopping mall and concert complex near Moscow, as reported by Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB).
The Ministry of Emergency Situations has confirmed that approximately 100 people were rescued by firefighters and brought to safety during the incident.
Fire and rescue teams are actively engaged in search and rescue operations, focusing on evacuating individuals from the building. Eyewitnesses reported that some people attempted to escape by creating makeshift barricades and breaking windows.
Reports suggest that up to 6,200 individuals may have been present in the building at the time of the attack, as the concert was completely sold out.
The death toll is anticipated to rise due to the severity of the attack and the subsequent fire that engulfed the mall, causing chaos and panic among the visitors.
The assault on Crocus City Hall, a prominent mall and music venue in the Moscow Region, was carried out by unidentified attackers armed with assault rifles. The assailants targeted visitors and set fire to the concert hall, where a performance by the rock band Picnic was scheduled to take place. The complex includes various facilities, such as a concert hall, an aquarium, a mall, and a wedding venue.
