Peter Obi, a Labour Party candidate for president in the 2023 election, has praised Victor Umeh for his success in the Court of Appeal in Awka.

According to PlatinumPost, after being earlier disqualified by a high court due to a lawsuit brought by Senator Uche Ekwunife and her Peoples Democratic Party, the appeal court reinstated Umeh as the Labour Party’s nominee for the Anambra Central senate seat (PDP).

The senatorial district of Obi, Anambra Central, is predicted by pundits to switch from the PDP to the Labour Party on Saturday.

Sen. Victor Umeh of the Labour Party (LP), who was running for the Anambra Central Senatorial zone in Anambra State, is to be congratulated on winning his court appeal, Obi said in a post on his social media sites on Thursday.

In confirming Victor Umeh as the Labour Party’s (LP) senatorial candidate for the Anambra central district, the court of appeals approved the two challenges brought by the LP and Umeh, according to Olubunmi Oyewole, the judge who read the decision by Skype on Thursday.

The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) and Ekwunife, the PDP’s senatorial candidate, had sued Umeh before the federal high court on the grounds that he had not resigned from the APGA before choosing the LP ticket.

Hyeladzira Nganjiwa upheld the PDP’s argument and dismissed Umeh on January 27.

Because the PDP lacked locus standi to bring the lawsuit, LP and Umeh challenged the decision through their respective counsels, Alex Ejesieme and Patrick Ikwetoh.

According to the ruling, the federal high court erred when it declared Umeh ineligible to be the party’s candidate.

The appeals court determined that because the lawsuit was filed after the deadline, it was time-barred. Additionally, the court agreed that the respondents lacked locus standi to bring the lawsuit.

The federal high court’s decision was overturned, and Umeh was confirmed as the Anambra central district senatorial candidate.
