Some of the victims of the building collapse in Abuja on Wednesday have praised the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Mr. Nyesom Wike, for paying their medical bills.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalled that on Wednesday, a two-story building at Lagos Street, Garki Village, fell, resulting in the deaths of two people and the evacuation of 37 others to various hospitals for medical attention.
When Wike visited the scene on Thursday, he gave the Federal Capital Territory Administration the order to pay the victims’ medical expenses from all of the FCT’s hospitals where they were receiving care.
After the minister promised that the government would cover their medical fees, the victims responded to the gesture by saying they had been well taken care of.
When federal capital territory administration officials, including Mr. Malan Haruna, acting secretary of the health and human services secretariat, paid them a visit, they made this statement.
Mohammed claimed to be the owner of a tailoring business that was still operational at the time of the collapse.
Dr. Winifred Esite, a medical officer at the facility, reported that 14 people were taken to the hospital, of which 12 received treatment and were released while one passed away.
One of the victims who was treated and released from the institution, Mrs. Charity Amadi, also thanked the FCT minister for the assistance.
Amadi, a mother of two who is currently pregnant, stated that they are currently seeking refuge at the Cherubim and Seraphim Area 2 Shopping Centre in Abuja and further stated that everything they owned was lost in the devastation.
She stated, “The hospital asked me to be coming for a check up to ensure that my unborn baby and I are fine. I am glad that the government has come to our aid.”
After the visit, the acting secretary of FCTA’s Health and Human Services Secretariat stated that the minister had instructed him and his team to visit the hospitals.
We are present in accordance with Wike’s directive, according to Haruna, who recalled that Wike had instructed the FCTA to pay the medical expenditures of all individuals impacted.
“At the minister’s request, we visited a few hospitals and assessed their conditions to make sure they were being properly cared for.
“As of now, 31 people have been treated and released from hospitals, while two victims have passed away.
“We have instructed the victims to prepare the bills and submit them to the Permanent Secretary through the FCT Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the health secretariat, respectively.
“The quality of services we have seen is very excellent, as testified by the victims themselves,” he said.
One person perished at the scene of the fallen building, while the other perished at Garki Hospital while receiving treatment, according to Mr. Oyegun Moses, Head of Search and Rescue.
Moses stated that Mrs. Amadi, the expectant mother, would attend the hospital for supervision in order to make sure her unborn kid was secure and in good health.
He promised that the government will cover any medical expenses incurred during the visits. (NAN)
