The court has handed down jail sentences to two persons convicted of vandalizing Ikeja Electric transformers.
Two individuals have been sentenced by the Ejigbo-based Lagos State Magistrate Court for damaging transformers owned by Ikeja Electric.
According to a recent statement made by the company’s spokesperson, Mr. Kingsley Okotie, this information was revealed.
Abubakar Alido and Ishola Olatunji were both found guilty and given sentences of one year and six months imprisonment, respectively.

A transformer with a capacity of 500KVA was vandalized by Alido at Michael Aladesuyi Street, Egbeda. The incident occurred under the Omo Osho 11KV Feeder. Additionally, Ishola made an attempt to vandalize another transformer on Karimu Laka Street in Egbeda which falls under the Orelope 11KV Feeder.
Following an inquiry, Alido was presented to Magistrate Court 1 in Ejigbo on June 14, 2024 by the police. He stood accused of intentional sabotage towards transformer cables which goes against Section 339 and subject to punishment under Section 350 of Lagos State Criminal Law implemented in year 2015. An admission of guilt came from Alido as the charges were examined upon him. The hearing got postponed until July second two thousand twenty-four for his sentencing process.
Upon hearing the judgment, Abayomi Bolorunde, the Business Manager of Akowonjo Business Unit expressed that the punishment would effectively discourage any future instances of vandalism.
