Rafael Van der Vaart, a former midfielder for Real Madrid, said that Royston Drenthe, a former Los Blancos colleague, had skills that drove Cristiano Ronaldo “crazy.”

In 2007, Drenthe moved from the Dutch team Feyenoord to Real Madrid.

He played just 65 games for Real Madrid before officially departing the Spanish La Liga powerhouse in 2012.

Van der Vaart, who lived with Drenthe and Ronaldo in Madrid, thought back to the days when the two enjoyed competing against each other in training.

Royston is, in my opinion, Holland’s best left-back ever, which is regrettable. Van der Vaart stated, as cited by Sports Klub, “He would have continued to play for the national team if he had set aside his ego and his love for street football.”

“In training, he liked to play against Cristiano Ronaldo. For him, it was a challenge. Who is that, Cristiano? he continued asking. He was a huge fan of Ronaldo’s during training. Royston was incredibly quick, nimble, and technically proficient.

In the meantime, Drenthe, who is 36 years old, hung up his boots this month.
