Professor Pat Utomi emphasizes that Nigeria’s true turnaround will only happen when leaders of character and integrity assume positions of power, calling for a shift in leadership values.

Professor Pat Utomi believes that placing individuals of integrity in positions of authority will significantly improve Nigeria’s prospects.

The political economy professor, appearing as a guest on Channels Television’s “Politics Today” on Wednesday, stated that the nation possesses the human capital necessary for greatness.

Utomi stated on the program, “In the end, values drive human progress. With principled individuals who are dedicated to service in positions of public authority, our nation will experience a positive transformation.”

“We possess the resources and talent needed to lead the way.”

Utomi expressed concern over the deterioration of culture and values in Nigeria, attributing it to the breakdown of institutions within the country.

He believes that real progress in any country depends on the strength of its institutions, such as the judiciary and electoral bodies, among others.

Our greatest challenge is the crumbling state of culture in Nigeria, as values are essential for human progress. How can we initiate a revolution centered on these values? Institutions play a crucial role in fostering human advancement; if we dedicate ourselves to constructing robust institutions that hold individuals accountable and fully uphold the rule of law, significant progress can be made.

Consider our judiciary; it’s currently seen as a laughingstock. Genuine progress for any country hinges on having a dependable judicial system. Similarly, when we assess other institutions like INEC and others, they appear weak and lacking in strength.

“How can we guarantee strong institutions and uphold values that emphasize the importance of character, allowing principled individuals to lead by example? I’m completely confident in our ability to achieve this because history has shown it is possible,” he remarked.

Utomi also mentioned that young Nigerians contribute to the country’s problems, noting their role in electing corrupt politicians. He suggested that the nation would improve when leaders prioritize competence over nepotism.
