According to a memo from the Pentagon, US Air Force personnel in Iraq have been instructed to be on standby in case there is a need for US involvement in the Israel Hamas war.
The memo, which was circulated earlier this month, applies to troops stationed in Iraq since last year.
The White House has previously stated that their support for Israel would not involve American soldiers fighting alongside Israeli forces. Despite this, US special forces have been active in Israel since October, providing assistance to the Israelis.
The conflict has resulted in US troops in Iraq, Syria, and Jordan being targeted multiple times, with recent attacks causing casualties among US soldiers.
In an effort to dismantle the Houthi blockade on merchant ships associated with Israel passing through the Red Sea, American ships and warplanes have conducted numerous strikes against Houthi militants in Yemen. In response, the Houthis have retaliated by targeting both US commercial and military vessels in the vicinity.
Recently, the militants declared that they had launched multiple missiles towards the destroyer USS Gravely. However, according to US Central Command, responsible for overseeing American military operations in the Middle East, the USS Gravely successfully intercepted one of the incoming missiles, resulting in no harm or casualties.
