A phoney dollar cartel has been found in Lagos by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, or NDLEA.
The bust was revealed by media director Femi Babafemi in a statement on Saturday.
Agents from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, or EFCC, participated in the combined operation.
According to Babafemi, the organisation used information obtained from the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) in the United States.
The Department of Justice’s (DoJ) federal law enforcement division is in charge of preventing the distribution and trafficking of illegal drugs.
NDLEA says that the Lagos cartel, which was based in the commercial city, was involved in the trafficking of fake US dollars.
Three suspects were detained at the Oniru Shoprite neighbourhood of Lekki, Lagos, where $269,000 worth of fake US currency was found, according to Babafemi.
Buba Marwa, the chairman of the NDLEA, has ordered that the suspects and bogus money be given to the EFCC for prosecution.
