The US Embassy in Nigeria has introduced a new visa application process aimed at streamlining the application experience for Nigerian immigrants, improving efficiency and reducing waiting times.

The U.S. Embassy in Nigeria has announced modifications to the immigrant visa application process, which will be implemented starting January 1, 2025.

According to the new procedure, applicants who have scheduled interviews must visit the US Consulate General in Lagos a minimum of two times throughout their application process.

The goal of this updated process is to boost efficiency and enhance service delivery.

On Tuesday, the embassy posted this update on its official X account (previously known as Twitter), urging applicants to acquaint themselves with the new requirements before they are implemented.

We encourage prospective applicants to follow official communication channels for further details and updates on the revised visa process.

The statement indicated that applicants with interviews scheduled after January 1, 2025, must visit the Consulate General in Lagos a minimum of two times during the immigrant visa process.

“This updated procedure aims to assist you in preparing for your visa interview and to avoid substantial delays in processing your immigrant visa.”

According to the information on the embassy’s official website, during your initial visit you will have an ‘In-Person Document Review’ with a member of the consular staff.

This review was designed to confirm that applicants possess all necessary documents prior to their visa interview.

“The embassy explained that this review enables applicants to obtain any missing documents before their visa interviews, helping to prevent delays in processing their applications.”

The second visit, which will be a visa interview with a Consular Officer, is arranged by the National Visa Center (NVC).

The embassy stressed the necessity of finishing the document review prior to the interview, cautioning that not doing so would require rescheduling the appointment.

The directive stated that failing to complete the In-Person Document Review before your visa interview would necessitate rescheduling your appointment.

Remember that in July 2024, the U.S. Embassy declared a switch to a new visa services provider for its operations in Abuja and Lagos, set to take effect on August 26, 2024.

This update was shared through the embassy’s official website and confirmed social media channels.
