The general elections in 2023 will get $50 million from the United States.

To guarantee a transparent process, the money will pay for the training of journalists, civil society organizations (CSOs), and technical help, among other things.

This was said on Monday in Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State, during an open session of an election reporting training for journalists hosted by the West Africa Broadcast & Media Academy. Mr. Will Stevens, the US Consul General, made the announcement (WABMA).

Will mentioned that to make sure that every vote counts, the US government has been collaborating closely with partners through the US Agency for International Development (USAID).

He claims that “the US government has committed over $50 million for technical aid and support, training, and civil society groups to promote elections, transparency, electoral procedures, technical assistance, and working on the IT systems.”

We’re dedicated to projects here in Nigeria to develop the necessary capacity, he declared. Numerous journalists received training from us on subjects including fact-checking, media ethics, health reporting, reporting on military and national security, and investigative journalism.
