According to two unnamed Iraqi security officials cited by Reuters on Sunday, an American base in northeastern Syria was targeted by at least five rockets. The projectiles were launched from the town of Zummar in northwestern Iraq.

It was not specified by Reuters if there were any casualties. Kataib Hezbollah, an Iraq-based group, later released a statement stating that they had decided to resume attacks on US personnel.

Iranian-backed militias had previously halted their attacks in February but resumed after retaliatory airstrikes by the US.

The recent attack involved a rocket launcher mounted on a small truck, which caught fire in an explosion from unfired rockets.

The incident occurred one day after a fatal blast at an Iraqi military command post, which both US and Israeli military officials denied involvement in. The increase in violence followed a week of largely ineffective aerial attacks between Iran and Israel.
