On Saturday, the US Central Command announced that the US and UK had conducted a joint operation involving air and sea-launched strikes in Yemen.
The operation targeted 36 locations across Yemen, with the aim of degrading the capabilities of the Houthi rebels.
The strikes focused on underground storage facilities, command and control centers, missile systems, UAV storage and operations sites, radars, and helicopters. The US Navy ships launched Tomahawk missiles, while F/A-18 fighter-bombers were launched from the USS Eisenhower aircraft carrier.
The US Central Command stated that these strikes were in response to the Houthi rebels’ attacks on US and UK ships, as well as international commercial shipping. In response to the strikes, the Houthis have vowed to escalate their military operations against the “Zionist entity” until the aggression against Gaza ceases.
The Houthis initially targeted Israeli-affiliated vessels but later expanded their attacks to include US and UK-owned ships after the coalition launched strikes against Yemen. This latest assault follows airstrikes on Iraq and Syria, which the US claimed were in response to a drone strike that killed three US soldiers in Jordan.
