Members of the Nigeria Police Force have apprehended several political thugs during overnight operations in Edo State. This initiative, which resulted in the seizure of firearms, is part of the ongoing efforts to ensure that the governorship election taking place today is free from violence.

This information was disclosed in a statement issued by the Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, on Saturday morning.

The statement indicates: “The Nigeria Police Force has achieved a notable success in its campaign against electoral violence in Edo State with the arrest of two political thugs, identified as Edwin Obonor, aged 43, and Au Tajudeen, a 41-year-old member of the PDP from Ugbogbo quarters, Igara Akoko, Edo.

A search of their belongings revealed three cut-to-size locally manufactured pistols in Obanor’s possession, while Tajudeen was found with one locally made firearm.

“These arrests underscore the Nigeria Police Force’s unwavering commitment to upholding law and order and ensuring a peaceful electoral environment. The police, along with other security agencies, will not permit any acts of violence or disorder during the election in Edo State.

“The suspects are currently in custody and will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. The Police assures the public of its commitment to safeguarding lives and property and encourages citizens to report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station or through our designated help lines.”
