The Oyo State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has called on the governors in the South West region to continue supporting the Western Nigeria Security Network (WNSN), also known as Amotekun.
The union emphasized the importance of this in order to honor the memory of the late former governor of Ondo State, Rotimi Akeredolu. The NUJ stated that sustaining Amotekun is the best way to immortalize Akeredolu.
In a communique issued at the end of its monthly congress, the union acknowledged Akeredolu’s role in the establishment of Amotekun, which has been complementing the efforts of the police and other security agencies in the region. The union expressed its condolences to Akeredolu’s family, the people of Ondo State, and the entire South West region on his passing.
It recognized Akeredolu’s contributions to the conceptualization and formation of Amotekun, which has now expanded to other states in the region, serving as a local police force to enhance security in the zone.
The South West Governors were urged by the Congress to honor Akeredolu’s memory by preserving his accomplishments, particularly in regards to the establishment of the Amotekun Corps.
