Sanusi Muhammadu has officially received his appointment letter as the Emir of Kano, just a day after being reinstated by Governor Abba Yusuf.
The letter was presented to him during a ceremony held at the Government House in Kano, which was attended by prominent government officials, traditional rulers, kingmakers, and other esteemed guests.
Governor Yusuf, in accordance with the Kano Emirate Council Law of 1984 and 2024, and with the endorsement of the kingmakers, expressed his pleasure in confirming Muhammadu Sanusi II’s reappointment as the Emir of Kano and the head of the Kano Emirate Council.
This reinstatement comes after four years since the former governor of the state, Abdullahi Ganduje, dethroned Sanusi. However, Governor Yusuf signed the Kano State Emirate Council (Repeal) Bill 2024 into law, leading to Sanusi’s reinstatement.
During the event, the governor emphasized the Emir’s responsibilities and urged him to lead in accordance with Islamic principles. He highlighted the Emir’s competence, credibility, and popularity as the basis for his reappointment, and encouraged him to use his position to foster unity and harmony among the Islamic sects in the state.
Despite a court order temporarily halting Sanusi’s reinstatement and preventing the governor from dissolving the Kano emirates established by the previous administration, Governor Yusuf defended the state assembly’s actions, stating that the judge who issued the order had no jurisdiction while being out of the country.
It is worth noting that the Kano Emirate was divided into five emirates by the Ganduje administration in December 2019, which led to the removal of Sanusi II as the Emir on March 9, 2020. These emirates include Karaye, Bichi, Rano, Gaya, in addition to Kano.
