UPDATED: President Tinubu Returns to Nigeria After G20 Summit in Brazil

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu arrives back in Nigeria following his participation in the G20 Summit in Brazil, highlighting key engagements. 

President Bola Tinubu has returned to Nigeria after attending the G20 Leaders’ Summit in Brazil.

The president reached Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja late Saturday.

A team of government officials and other top dignitaries welcomed him just hours after he departed from Galeao Air Force Base (SBGL) Airport in Rio de Janeiro.

Tinubu participated in the summit, where he expressed his support for the global alliance to combat hunger and poverty.

The Nigerian leader also engaged in bilateral discussions with Kristalina Georgieva, the Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), who commended President Tinubu for his reforms.

“We have a significant number of children not attending school, and we understand that education is a key solution to overcoming hunger and poverty. That’s why we’re developing strategies and incentives to ensure they stay in the classroom, and we need your support for these eager learners,” he explained to the IMF chief.

“We are involving stakeholders and raising awareness among Nigerians to broaden the tax base for inclusive economic growth. Our approach is not aimed at increasing taxes on those who have already contributed significantly. We will need your support in this endeavor,” Tinubu stated.

A high-profile delegation joined Tinubu at the summit, featuring Minister of Foreign Affairs Yusuf Tuggar; the Minister of Livestock Development; and the Minister of Arts, Tourism, Culture, and Creativity.

The G20 consists of 19 member nations such as Argentina, Australia, Canada, China, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy. Additionally members include Japan; Mexico; the Republic of Korea (South Korea); Russia above all Saudi Arabia & South Africa combined with Türkiye – together they encompass United Kingdom plus U.S., along with European Union’s representatives too!
