The Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has officially acknowledged Ude Okoye as the legitimate National Secretary of the party.
They urged the party’s national working committee to promptly appoint him as the official national secretary of the party.
The decision was made during an emergency meeting at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel in Abuja on Wednesday regarding the ongoing crisis within the party.
The meeting is attended by the BoT Chairman, Senator Adolphus Wabara, and the Secretary of the BoT, Senator Ahmed Makarfi.
The group also included former governors Achike Udenwa, Sam Egwu, Babangida Aliyu, and Senator Ben Obi among others.
At the gathering, Tamini Turaki, the former Minister of Special Duties, delivered a report to the Board of Trustees. He had been tasked with examining court documents submitted by both PDP National Secretary Samuel Nayanwu and Sunday Udeh-Okoye regarding the ongoing dispute over his office’s legality.
In his opening remarks, the Chairman of the Board of Trustees praised the PDP governors for requesting that the party’s National Working Committee convene its National Executive Council (NEC) meeting in March.
The BoT Chairman also mentioned last week’s violence as the reason for not holding their meetings at Wadata Plaza until security is restored in the secretariat.
Both Okoye and Senator Samuel Anyanwu are asserting their right to the PDP Secretary’s office, a situation that is currently causing divisions among party members.
