Three individuals perished and seven others sustained injuries as a result of a mosque collapsing in the Papa Ajao area of Mushin, Lagos State, on Sunday.

The Permanent Secretary of Lagos Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Femi Osanyintolu, confirmed in a statement that the mosque, situated on Yusuf Street, Off Ladipo Road, Papa Ajao, collapsed during prayer time.

Following a thorough assessment, the final casualty count for the incident is three fatalities and seven varying degrees of injuries.

The affected structures have been completely demolished. Responders at the scene included the Agency’s response team, LRU Fire unit, Lagos State Fire Service, LASBCA, NEMA, Nigeria Police, LNSC, FRSC, and LASAMBUS.

This tragic event contributes to the growing number of building collapses in Nigeria’s economic hub. Experts attribute these incidents to the use of substandard materials, incompetence, and other factors.
