The epicentre of the earthquake, which occurred late Friday, was 75 kilometres (km) west of Marrakesh, the fourth-largest city in Morocco.
According to the interior ministry of the country, more than 820 people have perished as a result of a strong earthquake that slammed central Morocco.
In Marrakesh and other places, the earthquake, which had a magnitude of 6.8, caused a flurry of activity in the streets.
At least 153 people were injured, and many of the fatalities are reportedly in remote mountain regions.
According to the US Geological Survey, it occurred immediately after 23:00 local time at a relatively shallow depth 71 kilometres (44 mi) southwest of Marrakesh.
