UPDATE: Death Toll Rises to 105 in Jigawa Tanker Explosion Tragedy
The death toll from the tragic tanker explosion in Jigawa has climbed to 105 as authorities continue rescue and recovery operations. Investigations into the cause of the incident are ongoing.
The number of fatalities in the tanker explosion in Jigawa State has increased to 105.
The count of injured individuals has also increased to 70.
OBASANJONEWS previously reported that at least 94 people lost their lives and 50 others sustained various injuries in a tanker explosion in Taura LGA, Jigawa State on Wednesday.
A statement from DSP Lawan Shiisu Adam, the spokesman for the Jigawa State Command, indicated that investigations found the explosion was triggered by petrol leaking into a gutter from a tanker.
Regrettably, villagers tried to collect petrol from the drainage, which led to a fire engulfing the area and reportedly causing many fatalities.
He reported that 105 bodies have been removed, and 70 injured individuals were transported to Ringim and Hadejia General Hospitals for medical treatment.
The fire was successfully put out thanks to the combined efforts of police officers, firefighters, and members of the public.
