Two people were killed and two others were injured at the National Hospital Trauma Centre when an explosion occurred in the generator house of the Canadian Embassy in the Federal Capital Territory.

On Monday, the event occurred about 10:45 a.m. A five-person JMD firm team was reportedly servicing the two MIKANO engines.

One of the power generating sets was producing power at the time of the incident, while the other was being maintained.

It was learned that the 2000-liter diesel tank in the generator house exploded, setting the fire.

Two workers who were maintaining the generator suffered fatal injuries, while the other two are being treated for severe burns at the National Hospital Trauma Centre.

At 1:30 p.m., the FCT Fire Service managed to put out the fire. According to the Nigerian Tribune, the victims were Nigerians.

In response to the event, Mr. Mohammed Ibrahim Sabo, the interim director general of FEMA, advised exercising caution when handling petroleum products, especially now that the dry season has begun.

In the event of a crisis, Sabo urged locals to always dial the 112 emergency toll-free hotline.
