In Imo State’s Ngor Okpala Local Government Area, some unidentified gunmen ambushed police officers on Friday morning at Okpala Junction.
A couple from the Amankwo Okpala village, Mr. and Mrs. Chinaka Nwagu, were also slain, Obasanjonews24 learned through a trustworthy source who wished to remain anonymous.
According to the source, the catastrophe had put a stop to all commercial operations throughout the neighbourhood.
The deceased cops came from the adjoining Abo Mbaise police district to eat at the crossroads, the man claimed.
He alleged that while they were eating, some armed individuals showed up and began firing at the policeman.
He asserted that in addition to the three police officers who were killed there, two more who escaped were also killed, along with a couple who sought refuge in a store.
It was the couple who owned the store.
“After murdering the policeman, the assailants stole five rifles.
“I sorry that this has happened. There’s trouble in our neighbourhood. Nobody can figure it out. The couple relocated out of Lagos around a year ago. The stock exchange has ended. People have escaped out of astonishment and terror. This is unbelievable, he cried.
Emeka Ndukwu, a resident who claimed to have travelled along the Owerri-Aba Road, reported seeing the dead bodies of the police officers.
“This is terrible,” said Ndukwu. The five policemen’s bodies were on the road as we were driving by. Their Hilux was parked nearby at the intersection. A terrible scene played out. It’s dreadful. May God show mercy.
Henry Okoye, spokesperson for the State Police Command, said that he had not yet been notified on the murder but promised to tell our correspondent when he was.
