Unpaid loan: Bank employees “pushed a woman to death,” four people are detained

Ms. Vivian Omo was killed after a confrontation with four Zefa Microfinance Bank employees in Ifo, Ogun State.

The event took place on May 10 when bank representatives from the Abule Ijoko Lemode neighborhood of Ifo Local Government went to the victim’s home to look for her husband, who was allegedly their debtor.

The bank employees reportedly went there to ask for the money the guy had borrowed, but when they arrived they were informed by the deceased that her husband was not at home.

The Ogun State police spokesman, Abimbola Oyeyemi, confirmed the event in a statement on Sunday. He said the bank employees were not pleased with the assertion that the man was not at home, so they attempted to flee with some devices, but the deceased wife objected.

“While the dead was battling with bank employees, one of them shoved her, causing her to fall and go unconscious.

She was subsequently sent to the hospital for treatment, but the attending physician declared her dead, according to Oyeyemi.

He went on to say that the DPO, CSP Awoniyi Adekunle, quickly guided his detectives to the scene where the bankers, Badmus Olalekan, Ajibade Oludare, Eniola Aduragbemi, and Femi Oloko, were arrested. He further explained that the incident was reported at the Agbado divisional headquarters by the deceased’s daughter.

He continued by saying that the body had been taken to the Ifo General Hospital mortuary for an autopsy.

While this was going on, Olanrewaju Oladimeji, the commissioner of police in Ogun, issued an order transferring the suspects to the State CIID’s homicide section while issuing a warning to “loan agencies to stop taking laws into their own hands in the process of recovering loan from their debtors, as anyone caught in such act will be arrested and prosecuted.”
