After losing 1-0 against the Gambia’s Young Scorpions, Nigeria’s Flying Eagles were unable to advance to the 2023 Africa U-20 Cup of Nations final.

Seven minutes after Daniel Bamaiyi, the Flying Eagles captain, made a mistake, Adama Bojang scored the winning goal for the Gambians.

During the course of the game, Gambia only managed that one shot.

The Flying Eagles put up a valiant fight to come back into the game, but their lack of imagination in the final third let them down.

Six minutes before the end, Ahmed Abdullahi, a substitute, was fouled inside the penalty area, and Ladan Bosso’s team was given a penalty.

The KAA Gent attacker, to his teammates’ misery, struck the woodwork.

Haruna Njie’s nasty challenge resulted in Gambia being reduced to 10 men late in the game.

On Friday, Tunisia will play the Flying Eagles in the third-place game.
