According to Mallam Umar Faruk Haruna, the deputy Chief Imam of the University of Benin, UNIBEN, Ekenwa Campus, any animal purchased for an Eid el-Kabir sacrifice using money obtained illegally is forbidden and haram.
According to Obasanjonews.com, the deputy chief Imam made this statement on Sunday during his sermon, which was delivered prior to the two required rakats (prayer sessions) at the campus’ Eid prayer area.
Haruna, citing verses 22–37 of the Holy Quran, pointed out that Allah requires the piety of the sacrifice, not the flesh or blood of the animals used as sacrificial offering, from the Muslim Ummah.
He asserts that the words “Not their flesh, nor their blood reaches Allah, but it is the piety from you that reaches Him” are unambiguously expressed in Holy Quran 22:37.
Although Haruna stated that it is not required for sacrificial animals to be slaughtered, she pointed out that this was intended for people who have the means to obtain animals for sacrifice.
“In general, Muslims are not permitted to live on anything that is illegal, and this is true not just during the Eid-ul-Fitr holiday.Ahead of Eid el-Kabir, Naira depreciates even more against dollar
To put it briefly, purchasing a ram is not required. Almighty Allah stated that the Hajji is one of the five pillars of Islam, but He did not state that it is required if you lack the necessary resources.
“For those whom Allah has made it simpler for, that is why He included a clause. You don’t need to go above and beyond in a year if Allah does not make it easy for you.
The sacrifice of those who purchased rams using funds obtained from Yahoo, Yahoo enterprises, or other illicit ventures would not be accepted by Allah.
“Even if you built a multimillion-naira mosque, if you commit evil deeds for financial gain, as long as the money comes from a haram source, then whatever you do with it is also haram.”
“Allah will not accept any ram that is purchased for sacrifice from any source that is not authentic or a legitimate earner,” he declared.
However, he stated that if the ram was given as a gift, it would be acceptable for people who are unaware of the buyer’s means of support.
It would only be illegal, in his opinion, if you knew how the giver made his or her living.
If someone purchases ram and gives it to you without getting their resources from a legitimate source, it would only be illegal to you if you know what that person does for a job.
However, it becomes legal for you to do so if you are unaware of his revenue source.
“They are all haram if you know that your child is into prostitution, Yahoo Yahoo business, or any other illegal ways to get money,” he continued.
Speaking about the difficulties faced by Nigeria, Haruna prayed to Almighty Allah to grant governments at all levels the wisdom to develop policies and initiatives that would lessen the impact of the nation’s economic suffering.
Eid-el-Kabir, also called the Festival of Sacrifice or Eid al-Adha, is one of the most important Islamic holidays, according to Obasanjonews.com.
