An office of the Independent National Electoral Commission, or INEC, has once again been attacked by unidentified gunmen in Enugu South Local Government Area of Enugu State.
This happens not long after a similar attack in Imo State, where a security guard was killed.
The Daily Post learned that one on-duty policeman was killed in the Enugu attack.
Festus Okoye, the National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee for INEC, confirmed the occurrence and said it occurred at around 9.12 p.m. on Sunday.
The statement says that the event was reported by Dr. Chukwuemeka J. Chukwu, who is the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) for Enugu State.
He claimed that although the attackers destroyed the Commission’s security gatehouse, they were unable to enter the main building due to the quick action of the Army and police officers from 82 Division.
From what we know, the other injured police officer is getting care at a hospital that we don’t know the name of.
The Chairman of Enugu South Local Government Area, Barr. Chimezie Robinson Nkwuo, also confirmed the attack.
He asked the locals to come out and get their Permanent Voter’s Card, or PVC, while expressing sympathy to the family of the murdered policeman.
