Unknown Gunmen Assassinate Ogun APC Councillorship Candidate

A councillorship candidate from the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun State has been tragically murdered by unknown gunmen, sparking concerns over political violence in the region.

Unidentified gunmen fatally shot Adeleke Adeyinka, the All Progressives Congress (APC) councillorship candidate for Abeokuta South Local Government, on Saturday.

The incident took place around 2 p.m. in the Jide Jones area of Oke Ilewo, Abeokuta, Ogun State.

It was reported that the assailants arrived in a car with tinted windows. One of them exited the vehicle, shot Adeyinka at close range, and then continued to attack him until he succumbed to his injuries.

In a viral video viewed by our correspondent, the victim was seen lying on his back in a pool of blood.

A source who wished to remain anonymous reported that the killing occurred around 2 p.m., catching everyone off guard. It is unclear if it was related to cultist activity or not. People in the area are already closing their shops, creating a tense atmosphere filled with sadness.

The deceased, a former youth leader from Abeokuta South Local Government, had been running for the position of Councilor for Ward 15 in the upcoming local government elections on November 16.

During his lifetime, Adeyinka was reportedly a transport union worker in the Panseke area of Abeokuta.

In the meantime, the Ogun All Progressives Congress Youth Leaders’ Forum has denounced the act of killing.

In a statement acquired by DAILY POST and signed by Abeokuta South Local Government’s youth leader, Comrade Kabir Odedairo, along with the Public Relations Officer Timothy Odedina, the forum condemned the killing as both senseless and horrific.

The Ogun State All Progressives Congress Youth Leaders’ Forum expresses profound sadness and outrage over the brutal killing of Adeleke Adeyinka, the APC candidate for Ward 15 in Abeokuta South. He was tragically murdered today in the Jide Jones area of Abeokuta City.

We firmly denounce this senseless and horrific act that has left our community shaken and grieving. The shooting and stoning of Adeleke to death by unknown assailants in a tinted car is especially troubling, demanding immediate action from law enforcement agencies.

Adeleke was not only a promising young leader but also a committed party member, who served as the youth leader for Ward 15 in Abeokuta South and collaborated with others during the election.

They called for a prompt and comprehensive investigation by the appropriate authorities to ensure justice is achieved, while also urging the police to enhance patrols and security measures in the affected areas to prevent additional violence.

When our correspondent reached out to Omolola Odutola, the spokesperson for the Ogun police command, she stated that the command is not aware of the situation.
