Sa’adu Zungur University is seeking police support to enhance the safety of its students. Learn more about the university’s security measures.

Professor Fatimah Tahir, the Vice Chancellor of Sa’adu Zungur University, has sought collaboration with the Bauchi State Police Command to tackle any security issues that may occur at Gadau Main and Yuli Campuses.

On the 28th of August, 2024, Professor Tahir visited the Bauchi State Commissioner of Police at the force headquarters and made a plea.

Expressing worries about the welfare of students, particularly those who live away from campus due to insufficient hostel options, the Vice Chancellor conveyed concerns regarding their safety.

She stated that their top priority is the safety and well-being of students located in both Yuli Campus and Gadau Campus.

The Gadau campus lacks sufficient hostel accommodation, forcing most students to reside in Gadau town. Similarly, there are no available hostels for students here at Bauchi.

All of the students at Yuli Campus reside off-campus, whether it be with their parents or other relatives in town.

She lamented that our students are often attacked and robbed of their belongings, causing them harm on occasion.

“We have numerous instances where students were brutally attacked, including cases of axing and mutilation.”

Consequently, she emphasized the necessity of implementing improved security measures to safeguard students from potential security risks.

The Vice Chancellor expressed appreciation towards the police outpost in Gadau for their assistance and collaboration, urging for a structured plan to enhance security measures across both campuses.

To ensure effective protection, she proposed a joint effort between the police and internal security of the university.

In order to improve safety for both students and the whole community, Professor Tahir insisted on the establishment of a security post in Yuli village as well as frequent patrols aimed at deterring criminal activities.

Mr. Auwal Muhammad Musa, the Commissioner of Police, lauded the Vice Chancellor’s effective leadership and accountability while assuring further collaboration with the university in a strategic move forward.

He promised to boost police visibility at Gadau campus and consider the option of incorporating additional patrol cars for improved nocturnal surveillance.

The Commissioner pledged to conduct a thorough examination of the raised concerns, with the aim of delivering an enduring resolution.

The objective of this partnership is to guarantee a learning atmosphere that is secure and safe for the students at Sa’adu Zungur University.
