Professor Kayode Adebowale, the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ibadan, has recently established a board for the N200 million Martins Ifeonuka Etuokwu Scholarship Fund.

This initiative aims to provide financial support to students of the institution and highlights the crucial role of alumni in the sustainable development of tertiary institutions.

Professor Adebowale emphasized the importance of cultivating a strong relationship with alumni, providing them with relevant information, and encouraging them to contribute to their Alma Mater.

He also highlighted that universities in other parts of the world rely heavily on alumni for sustainability rather than government funding.

The Vice-Chancellor expressed his gratitude to the alumnus who helped source the funds and assured that the scholarships would be awarded perpetually and with utmost transparency.

Their collective expertise and commitment will ensure the effective management and utilization of the funds for the benefit of deserving students.

The UI @75 Committee has been actively working to attract benefactions to the university, and designating UI alumni as Ambassadors and friends of UI as Ambassadors Extraordinaire has been a successful strategy.

This approach has led to the generous donation of the scholarship fund by the RAMS Charity Foundation, facilitated by a passionate second-generation alumnus who deeply cares about the university’s welfare.

The inauguration of the board marks a momentous occasion in the ongoing celebration of UI’s 75th anniversary.
