Unilever Nigeria Plc’s chairman Obi of Onitsha resigns

His Royal Majesty, Nnaemeka A. Achebe, the Obi of Onitsha, has resigned as a non-Executive Director and Chairman of the Board, as stated by Unilever Nigeria Plc’s Board of Directors.

According to the company’s letter to the Nigerian Exchange Limited (NGX), the resignation would become effective on December 31, 2023.

The following is from the declaration made by Mrs. Afolasade Olowe, Senior Counsel and Company Secretary:

This is to inform the investing public and the Nigerian Exchange Limited that the board of directors of Unilever Nigeria Plc has approved His Royal Majesty, Nnaemeka A. Achebe’s resignation as a non-executive director and board chairman, effective December 31, 2023.

“The Board of Directors would like to extend its profound gratitude to His Royal Majesty for his leadership and the numerous excellent contributions he provided to the Board over the past 20 years since his appointment in March 2003. We wish him the very best in his retirement.

“In due course, His Royal Majesty’s successor on the Unilever Nigeria Board of Directors will be announced.
Description of Achebe

Igwe Nnaeka Eight distinct businesses have had Alfred Achebe serving as its CEO. Mr. Achebe currently serves as Chairman of the Anambra State Traditional Rulers Council, Chairman of Tishona Ltd., Chairman of International Breweries Plc, and Non-Executive Chairman of Unilever Nigeria Plc.

He serves on the boards of Ahmadu Bello University, Coscharis Farms Ltd., the National Council of Traditional Rulers of Nigeria, and Omak Petroleum Services.

Nnaemeka Igwe Formerly, Alfred Achebe served as Chancellor at Kogi State University, Chairman of Diamond Bank Plc, Chairman of The Southeast Council of Traditional Rulers, Chairman of Universal Insurance Plc, and Chairman of Intafact Beverages Ltd.

The Trustees of Columbia University in The City of New York awarded Mr. Achebe an MBA after he graduated with an undergraduate degree from Stanford University.
