UNICAL’s top 1st class graduate awarded N1m prize

Roland Osaji Takon, an undergraduate student at the University of Calabar, has achieved the prestigious title of the overall best-graduating student with first-class honors in History.

He has demonstrated exceptional academic excellence throughout his time at the university, culminating in this remarkable achievement.

In recognition of his outstanding performance, Takon has been awarded a substantial cash prize of One Million Naira, a testament to his hard work, dedication, and commitment to his studies.

This star prize serves as a token of appreciation for his exceptional academic accomplishments.

Takon was among the 10,117 students who graduated from the University during the 36th Convocation Ceremony for the 2023/2024 academic year.

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof Florence Obi, commended Takon for his remarkable achievement, highlighting his impressive CGPA of 4.85 on a scale of 5.

Takon’s exceptional performance has earned him the title of valedictorian and the overall best student in his department.

Prof Obi also mentioned that out of the total number of graduates, 46 students received First Class Honors, with Takon being the standout student among them.

The distribution of degrees among the graduates reflects a diverse range of academic achievements, with a significant number of students excelling in their respective fields of study.

Additionally, the Vice-Chancellor noted that a total of 12 female students and 34 male students were awarded First Class degrees, highlighting the gender diversity in academic excellence at the University of Calabar.

The Post-Graduate level also saw a significant number of students being awarded higher degrees and diplomas, further emphasizing the academic success of the graduating class.
