The release of Prof. Cyril Ndifon, the suspended Dean of the Faculty of Law at the University of Calabar (UNICAL), has been ordered by the Federal High Court in Abuja.
This temporary bail has been granted to allow him to undergo glaucoma surgery. Prof. Ndifon, who is a law professor, was implicated by an investigative panel established by the University of Calabar following allegations of sexual harassment made by several female students.
Justice James Omotosho granted the order after an oral application by Ndifon’s lawyer, Okon Efut, who is a Senior Advocate of Nigeria.
Efut informed the court that Ndifon had a scheduled eye surgery on January 11 and requested bail for his client to undergo the operation and face trial. On Wednesday, Justice Omotosho granted bail to Prof. Ndifon in the sum of N250 million, with a surety who must provide an affidavit of means and deposit their travel passport with the court registry.
The bail will be effective from January 10 to 25, during which time the court will hear the bail application filed by the lawyer. The trial will continue on January 25 and 26.
