UNICAL lecturer abducted by kidnappers, community held hostage
Gunmen reportedly held the officers and patrons of Omgbotuche Ayi Yala Worldwide, AYWI, hostage during a meeting in Calabar, as per reports.
Among those abducted was Dr. Roland Ipuole, a lecturer from the University of Calabar, UNICAL, Law Faculty, who was taken to an undisclosed location by the gunmen.
In addition to Dr. Ipuole, two other individuals were also kidnapped, along with their mobile phones and other valuables.
Dominic Ogri, one of the abducted persons, was able to regain his freedom on Wednesday, according to Obasanjonews.com.
As of Wednesday afternoon, Dr. Roland Ipuole remains in captivity for reasons unknown.

There has been no communication established regarding the lecturer’s situation.
The incident took place at Harry D Hub along Ndidem Usang Iso Road in Calabar, where sources close to the scene reported that the officers were held captive for more than 30 minutes.
One witness mentioned that there was no intervention from security agencies, and the gunmen were seen extorting money from drivers and other individuals.
Meanwhile, a group called Edebia Sons and Daughters in Calabar have made an appeal to the State government to assist in the swift rescue of their abducted son.
Superintendent Irene Ugbo, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, confirmed the abduction.
