According to the University of Benin, some fraud gangs have been detained for admissions racketeering.
Dr. Benedicta Ehanire, the university’s public relations officer, made the announcement in a statement on Sunday in Benin.
She claims that members of the syndicates will even go so far as to collect school fees from their victims while pretending to be able to assist them.
“At the University of Benin, some admission fraud networks have been exposed.
“Members of the syndicates pose as university admission officers and participate in admission racketeering and admission document fabrication.
Some of them even go so far as to collect school fees from their victims while pretending to help them pay the university. Some arrests have already been made.
The spokesman said in the statement that “the university management reiterates that the admission process at the University of Benin is free of charge and advises members of the public to be wary of fraudsters.”
