Nigeria has been elected as the current chair of the executive board of the United Nations Human Settlement Programme (UN-Habitat), as stated by Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development, Abdullahi Tijjani Muhammad Gwarzo, during a meeting with UN-Habitat’s Portfolio Manager for West Africa, Mr. Mathias Spaliviero.
Gwarzo expressed his satisfaction with this appointment and assured the programme manager of Nigeria’s commitment to fulfilling its responsibilities.
He emphasized the importance of collaboration between the ministry and UN-Habitat to achieve the goals set out in President Bola Ahmad Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda for Housing and Urban Development in Nigeria.

The Minister reiterated the Ministry’s dedication to providing safe, healthy, and suitable living environments for all Nigerians.
Gwarzo also informed the UN-Habitat team that efforts are being made to promptly settle the outstanding contributions for 2022 and 2023, totaling $500,000.
Prior to Nigeria assuming the chairmanship, Spaliviero mentioned that Cameroon and Kenya had graciously stepped down to allow Nigeria to take on this important role within the executive board of UN-Habitat.
