President Bola Tinubu has received assurances from the Ohanaeze Ndigbo sociocultural organisation that the Igbos in his cabinet will perform above and beyond expectations.
Ohanaeze made the comment while praising Tinubu for designating Nyesom Wike as the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Dave Umahi as the Minister of Works, Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ikechukwu Ogalla as the Chief of Naval Staff, and other Igbos to important posts.
In a statement released following a joint Ime-Obi meeting in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, as part of the events to honour the 2023 Igbo Day celebration, Ohanaeze’s leadership made the comment.
Prof. Elechi Chinda-Wonye, Prof. Thomas Ellah, and factional Secretary-General Okechukwu Isiguzoro of Yale University all signed the communiqué.
Ohanaeze encouraged the president to give the Port Harcourt wharf and other Eastern ports top priority while praising Tinubu for the Lagos-Calabar coastal road project.
Part of the statement reads, “We equally commend His Excellency, Senator Bola Ahmed Tibubu, GCFR, President and Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces, Federal Republic of Nigeria, for the appointment of Ndigbo into some strategic positions in his Government, such as Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ikechukwu Ogalla, Chief of Naval Staff, Engr. Dave Umahi, Minister of Works, and Barr Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory.
“We want to reassure the President that these men will all perform above and beyond expectations, while acknowledging that they were all nominated based on merit.
While applauding the President for the construction of the Lagos-Calabar coastal road, an important infrastructure project with many advantages, we implore him to give priority to the reopening of Port Harcourt wharf and other Eastern ports in order to relieve pressure on the Lagos ports and reduce the chronic traffic on Lagos roads.
Ohanaeze Ndigbo’s hosting of Igbo Day on January 11, 2025 is intended to mobilise and sensitise the stakeholders and members of the Rivers State chapter of the Apex Igbo organisation in order to ensure that qualified candidates for the office are identified. This is because, according to the Ohanaeze constitution, Rivers State will produce the next President General.
