Umahi also expressed his gratitude to PDP National Chairman Iyorchia Ayu for “working for” Tinubu’s election in a comment that appeared to be made in jest.

David Umahi, the governor of Ebonyi State, has encouraged Bola Tinubu, the president-elect, to include Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike and other prominent opposition figures in his cabinet.

At the Monday commissioning of the renovated community secondary school, Okoro Nu Odo, in Rivers State’s Obio/Akpor Local Government Area (LGA), Umahi made the comments.

The governor emphasised the role that PDP member Wike played in Tinubu’s and Kashim Shettima’s nomination as the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate and vice presidential nominee, respectively.

The Ebonyi governor asserted that the APC cannot draw any conclusions about the outcome of the election without bringing up Governor Wike because “God, directly and indirectly, made Governor Wike very much available.”

“And we will be requesting that Asiwaju/Shettima put Governor Wike in the centre of the federal government, please. He can do a lot to promote national unity.

Umahi believes that in order to foster national unity, politics should be put on hold following the general elections. It concerns how to advance this nation. It’s about how to bring our people together,” he continued.

Umahi also expressed his gratitude to PDP National Chairman Iyorchia Ayu for “working for” Tinubu’s election in a comment that appeared to be made in jest.

The insult was made in the midst of the PDP’s current crisis, which saw Wike and four other PDP governors demand Ayu’s resignation in order for them to back Atiku Abubakar, the PDP’s nominee, in the run-up to the election.

Their complaint was that the party’s zoning philosophy lacked “fairness, equity, and justice.”

In an apparent swipe at Ayu’s recent censure by the Benue State chapter of his party for suspected anti-party conduct, Umahi remarked, I also want to highly appreciate the suspended chairman of the PDP.”

“He performed extremely well because he accepted to retire; otherwise, the APC would have had a terrible time.” He is thus our man, and I highly recommend him.

And I’m pleading with Wike to get his ban lifted so he may oust even more of your leaders.

“We applaud him because we love what he has accomplished. And in my opinion, Asiwaju needs to be aware that he is his employee and must include him in the incoming government.
