Uganda’s Jacob Kiplimo breaks the men’s half-marathon world record, completing the race in a stunning time of under 57 minutes, setting a new benchmark in long-distance running.
On Sunday, Uganda’s Jacob Kiplimo set a new men’s half-marathon world record and became the first runner to complete it in under 57 minutes.
At a road race in Barcelona, 24-year-old Kiplimo clocked an impressive time of 56 minutes and 41 seconds. This outstanding performance shattered the previous record of 57:30 set by Ethiopian distance runner Yomif Kejelcha last year in Valencia, Spain.
“I am incredibly grateful and thrilled with my performance today. Breaking the record was unexpected, especially since I just arrived here. My focus is always on running a good race, so I’m delighted to have set a new world record,” said Jacob Kiplimo.
World Athletics described it as the most significant improvement ever made to the men’s half-marathon record, noting that Kiplimo took advantage of perfect weather conditions, with temperatures at 13 degrees Celsius and no wind.
Kiplimo secured a bronze medal in the 10,000 meters event at the Tokyo Olympics held in 2021.
