At Signal-Iduna Park, Newcastle lost badly in the Champions League, falling to Borussia Dortmund 2-0.

Midway through the first half, Julian Brandt’s late goal on a counterattack gave the Bundesliga team the lead. Joelinton had opportunities to tie the score for Newcastle, but Julian Brandt’s goal put an end to Eddie Howe’s team’s hopes of a comeback.

Newcastle have to improve their performance if they want to advance to the next round. They currently trail Dortmund by three points. Their next match is an away match against Paris Saint-Germain, which might put a stop to their aspirations of moving forward if things don’t go their way.

Howe was compelled to make use of his roster, moving Miguel Almiron and Anthony Gordon, who scored the game-winning goal against Arsenal on Saturday, to the bench. Up until now, Lewis Hall and Tino Livramento had only ever started Carabao Cup matches.

They were put to the test early on as Dortmund, buoyed by the raucous home crowd, took the lead right away. Marcel Sabitzer’s cut-back found Fullkrug’s left foot, and the pressure paid off as he pounced to score.

But AC Milan defeated Paris St-Germain in Group F thanks to a thunderous header from Olivier Giroud, which marked the Italian team’s first Champions League victory of the year.

Five minutes into the second half, the French attacker headed home Theo Hernandez’s cross to seal the victory.

PSG’s first goal came from Milan Skriniar, who scored at the back post after Marquinhos’ flick.

After Giroud’s original attempt was parried, Rafael Leao quickly levelled with a close-range overhead kick.

Milan is currently third in the group with five points, one more than Eddie Howe’s team, while PSG is now second in the group with six points, one behind leaders Borussia Dortmund who defeated Newcastle earlier on Tuesday.

With this victory, Milan, the runners-up from the previous season, will still have a chance to advance to the next round when they visit Dortmund on November 28.

When former goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma made his first visit back to the San Siro after his contentious transfer to PSG two years ago, the home crowd booed him loudly and tossed fake money at him.
