After yet another lacklustre showing against Galatasaray in the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday, Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag defended under-fire custodian Andre Onana.
Man United fell to Galatasaray 3-2 in the Champions League as a result of Onana’s errant pass, which also resulted in Casemiro’s dismissal.
Recall that the Cameroonian was also at fault for Bayern Munich’s first goal in Man United’s 4-3 loss to the Bundesliga champions in their Champions League debut.
Onana’s performances in the Premier League have also drawn criticism, but Ten Hag defended him, claiming he has the potential to rank among the best in the world.
“We are pleased with our goalkeeping group, especially Andre. He has the potential to be among the best in the world, Ten Hag told the reporters after the match (via Sky Sports). He has appeared in one Champions League semi-final and last year’s Champions League final.
“He has demonstrated that, and he will carry it out. His amazing powers and his character after making blunders have already been demonstrated in video games. He will recover, and I have no doubt that he will in the upcoming games as well.
In ten games for Manchester United this season, Onana has let in 18 goals.
