Tyla, a Grammy-winning singer from South Africa, refuted the idea that she is not black.
On social media, competing admirers have asserted that the 22-year-old singer is “white/Indian” rather than black.
Tyla responded by stating that she is mixed-race in a statement that was posted on her X page on Thursday night.
Her ancestry is Black/Zulu, Irish, Mauritian/Indian, she emphasised.
She mentioned that although she was born and raised in South Africa, anyone outside of her nation would classify her as a black woman.

The singer of the hit song “Water” stated that she had never denied being black.
“Oh guys, [I have] never denied my blackness, idk where that came from,” the statement said.
“I’m mixed with Irish, Mauritian/Indian, Black/Zulu, and Coloured people.
“I would be categorised as a Black woman in some places and as a Coloured woman in South Africa.”
Different classifications of race exist around the world.
“I know the weight of that word outside of SA, so I don’t expect to be described as Coloured by anyone who is uncomfortable doing so outside of SA. To end our discussion, though, let me say that I’m a black lady from South Africa who is also coloured.
