Two Suspected Killers of Anambra Lawmaker Escape Police Custody

Two suspects linked to the murder of an Anambra lawmaker have escaped from police custody, raising concerns over security lapses in the state.
Two suspects connected to the murder of Justice Azuka, a member of the Anambra House of Assembly, have escaped from police custody in the state.
Tochukwu Ikenga, the spokesman for the Anambra State Police Command, revealed this information in a statement on Tuesday.
According to Ikenga, the state Commissioner of Police, Ikioye Orutugu, was informed on Tuesday about the escape of two suspected killers from custody.
He explained that the two suspects cooperating with police operatives had accompanied them on an investigation to capture a receiver of vehicles used by the criminal gang.
Ikenga stated, “Amid the operation by our officers, the suspect was apprehended and two vehicles believed to have been stolen from unsuspecting citizens were recovered.”
Regrettably, the two other suspects escaped from the scene.
The spokesperson for the Command announced that the CP has mobilized “human, operational, and intelligence resources” to recapture the suspects.
He mentioned that the commissioner had also mandated “immediate disciplinary action” against officers deemed responsible in connection with the suspects’ escape.
This occurs roughly two weeks after a joint security team discovered the decomposing body of the lawmaker at Second Niger Bridge in Onitsha, Anambra State.
On December 14, 2024, the legislator was kidnapped by armed individuals.
