The Rivers State Police Command has assumed control over all 23 Council Secretariats and certain critical government infrastructure in the state.
This action comes in response to the ongoing Local Government crisis in Rivers State, where two security operatives tragically lost their lives while on duty.
The exact details surrounding their deaths remain unclear, but it is believed that the incident occurred during the invasion of the council headquarters in Eberi-Omuma.
The spokesperson for the Rivers State Police Command, Grace Iringe-Koko, confirmed the deaths and stated that investigations are underway to gather more information.
In light of these events, the Command has deployed conventional police officers and anti-riot police officers to these facilities.
They are urging all individuals and groups to abide by the law and warning that anyone intending to cause chaos will face the full force of the law.
Governor Siminalayi Fubara has also called for a security council meeting with heads of security agencies to address the recent political developments in the state and discuss strategies to address the invasion of local government secretariats.
